Most visitors to Hanoi can find a list of five famous foods that can-not-be-missed. Let’s discover what they are …

Xoi Xeo (Hanoi yellow sticky rice with fried onions)

Xoi Xeo is made by sticky rice combined with ground de-hulled mung bean and fried onion. If you like, you can order eggs or steamed chicken breast to eat with Xoi Xeo. Actually, Xoi Xeo can be enjoyed any time of the day; however, most Vietnamese people particular love tasting it for breakfast or lunch.

The best place for a bowl of Xoi Xeo is at Xoi Yen

Where to enjoy? You can try Xoi Xeo in almost every outdoors market and at two restaurants in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. Perhaps the best place for a bowl of Xoi Xeo is at Xoi Yen, which is located just North of Sword Lake on Nguyen Huu Huan street.

Banh Cuon (Vietnamese steamed rice rolls)

Whereas the French is famous for delicious crepe made of wheat, egg and dairy products, Vietnamese in general and Hanoians in particular can proud of their traditional steamed crepe from rice flour and water. Banh cuon cannot be served without nuoc mam, a mixture of fish sauce, sugar and lime.

Where to try? Banh cuon Gia An at Ba Trieu street (near Vincom Tower) is one of the best and safest place to enjoy this traditional food of Vietnam as Banh Cuon there is made without preservative and of high hygiene condition. Especially, a vegetarian can also ask for vegetarian options at Banh Cuon Gia An.
