Pu Luong Nature Reserve is geographically lying in the two districts of Quan Hoa and Ba Thuoc in Thanh Hoa Province. A diverse nature reserve of Pu Luong: Stretching an area of 17,662ha, Pu Luong Nature Reserve is now the largest low area of limestone forest in the Northern Vietnam. It consists of three major types, including thick forests on low land and low mountains; forests on limestone mountains and floristic compositions of bamboos, Neohouzeaua and bushes.

The statistics of the Management Board show that the Pu Luong Nature Reserve has 1,109 species of vascular plants, under 447 branches and 152 families, of which 42 special-use varieties of plants of Vietnam and four species listed in the World’s Red Book. Additionally, Pu Luong is also home to nearly 600 species of animals, birds and reptiles with 51 precious and special-use species listed in the red books of Vietnam and the world, including 26 species of animals, 5 species of bat, 9 species of birds, 5 species of fresh water fish and 6 species of reptiles. In particular, Pu Luong is the living place of the second largest population of Vooc mong trang (Trachypithecus delacouri) in Vietnam with 31-38 individuals (the first belongs to Vooc mong trang in Van Long Nature Reserve – Ninh Binh Province).
