![]() Can Wine is a specific characteristic of some ethnic groups in Vietnam Northwest |
Drinking Can wine has been a long-lasting traditional custom of some ethnic groups including the Muong ethnic group, the Thai ethnic Group, the Ede ethnic group, etc.
Some ethnic groups in Central Highland use only one pipe for both host and guests to drink Can Wine; whereas, the Muong people need lots of pipes for people to enjoy the wine. Traditionally, Can Wine is often drunk on the occasion of festivals. In case, if the host welcomes distinguished guests, he will also bring Can Wine to invite guests. The Can wine is put in a jar placed in the middle of the house or in the house-yard so that many people can easily drink it. Pipes are put into the jar prior for drinking and there is a basinful of pure water beside it. On a tray nearby is a buffalo horn used for measuring water and pouring Can Wine into the jar. |
