Established from 1946 to 1948 on the “Iron Land” Cu Chi, the tunnels were used as hospitals, communication and supply routes and living quarters for Vietnamese soldiers during the resistance Vietnam war against French aggression. The tunnel network system consists of three floors, with the first 3m deep and able to resist artillery, tanks and armoured vehicles. The next second one is 5m deep under the ground and able to resist small bombs. Last, the ground floor is 8-10m deep. Thanks to be dug deep underground; the Cu Chi Tunnels was designed to withstand destructive bombs. Air is taken in through the tunnel vents.
