Duong Lam Ancient Village honored by UNESCO

Duong Lam ancient village was honored to be praised as the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation at a ceremony in Hanoi on February 18th, 2014.
Recently, according to the panel of international judges, Duong Lam has restored five age-old houses inside the ancient village, including Mong Phu Village Gateway, On Pagoda, Giang Van Minh worship-house, Nguyen Van Hung and Ha Van Vinh’s ancient houses. The Chief Representative of the UNESCO Office in Vietnam, Katherine Muller Main, highly appreciated the work in the age-old houses inside Duong Lam village as well as felt pleased to know that the restoration would have a growing influence on the local community. She also emphasized that the preservation in the village was a good model for conservation efforts of the Vietnam???s rural areas in the future. Particularly, UNESCO certificates of merit are given to 27 individuals, including 15 foreigners, and three organizations for their significant contributions to the project. Till now, Vietnam has five projects which have been gained the prestigious UNESCO cultural heritage conservation award. (Source VOV news) |
