Phu Quoc Prison or Coconut Tree Prison in Phu Quoc
On a ceremony hold by the southern province of Kien Giang on March 27, Phu Quoc Prison (in Phu Quoc Island) took great pride to be recognized as a special national heritage site.

The ceremony saw the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh, leaders of Mekong Delta cities and provinces, war veterans, along with nearly 600 former Phu Quoc prisoners.

As everyone knows, Phu Quoc Prison was used to be the place where Vietnamese communists were jailed during the war. Therefore, the recognition for the prison was an opportunity for the Vietnamese Party and State express deep gratitude to over 4,000 war martyrs who laid down their lives in the prison and tens of thousands of Vietnamese communists who joined the national struggle for national liberation, independence and freedom and for people’s happiness. Furthermore, the acknowledgement of the prison also praised the big value of the site in educating the country’s revolutionary tradition and raising national pride and responsibilities among younger generations.
