The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, which was acknowledged as a World Cultural Heritage Site, has been estimated to welcome more than 70,000 visitors of both domestic and international this year.

Being discovered in 2002, the ancient citadel was recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as part of the world cultural heritage in 2010 thanks to its three outstanding characteristics: the length of its cultural history, the continuity of the citadel as a power centre and the variety of relics it contains. Besides, the citadel’s archaeological excavation has revealed evidence dating back from the 11th century to 19th century.

Up to now, Hanoi has been implementing many measures to protect and preserve the vestige of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel as well as to introduce and promote the global value of this ancient site.
